Dr. Hiroyuki Ogata is a Senior Research Scientist at the Tokyo Institute of Technology (Japan). Dr. Hiroyuki Ogata is a bioinformatician, with a strong expertise in genomics of microorganisms. His main scientific interest is to understand the evolutionary and ecological significance of large DNA viruses, such as the giant Mimivirus. His recent contributions in this domain include the identification of genetic interactions between a haptophyte species and its viruses as well as the first quantification of large DNA viruses in marine environments by metagenomics.
