yaiza@icm.csic.esYaiza Mercedes Castillo is a second-year undergraduate student doing her PhD under the supervision of Dra Vaqué. Her main research topic is the study and detection of marine prokaryote-phage and eukaryote-virus cultured and uncultured species, identifying their abundance, diversity and distribution over broad geographical scales. To reach this, she is applying different approaches in the lab as viraltag and phageFISH methods, and in nature high-throughput sequencing together with bioinformatics tools. She will participate in the project in maintaining viral and microbial strain isolated from Nature and updating and improving these lab and metagenomic techniques to achieve the detection of viral-bacterial models in the lab as in Nature.
